What is MBH?
MBH = 1,000 BTU/hour , and BTU is a unit of measurement used to define how much energy the equipment takes to raise the temperature one degree. For example, a 150,000 BTU ENERGY STAR® Commercial Water Heater is 150 MBH and would qualify for a $600 rebate.
Why Choose ENERGY STAR®?
ENERGY STAR® certified commercial water heaters include gas-fired storage and gas-fired instantaneous (also referred to as tankless) units that use around 15 percent less energy than conventional commercial units by employing more efficient heat exchangers. Using less energy will save you money on your utility bills and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
How to Get Your Rebate:
1. Check Your Eligibility
This program is currently available to existing and new construction UGI gas commercial customers in Pennsylvania with a rate class of N, NT, DS or LFD. UGI gas customers in Maryland are currently not eligible.

2. Start Shopping Around
Look for the ENERGY STAR® logo.
Shop for an ENERGY STAR® certified commercial water heater at a local store, online or on the ENERGY STAR® Product Finder.
3. Find a Contractor
Contact an HVAC contractor to install and connect the equipment.* UGI has provided an HVAC Contractor Locator Tool to help find trusted contractors in your area.
4. Claim Your Rebate
Now that your new energy efficient water heater is installed, apply online or print an application to mail in to claim your rebate.
The application must be submitted along with a copy of an invoice showing: Manufacturer, Model Number, Quantity, and Total Price Showing Full Payment Made.
*Program is open to UGI commercial gas customers in Pennsylvania who install qualifying commercial equipment prior to September 30, 2025, pending available funds. Applications must be submitted within 90 days of installation.

If all commercial water heaters sold in the U.S. were ENERGY STAR® certified, the energy cost savings would grow to nearly $890 million and more than 17 billion pounds of annual greenhouse gas emissions would be prevented.
