Direct Discount Program
- Electric Business Rebates
- Direct Discount Program
Want to be more energy efficient but fear the upfront cost and time? The UGI Electric SaveSmart Direct Discount Program can help your business save money.
The Direct Discount Program provides attractive incentives to small business (GS1 or GS4 rate code) customers for upgrading to more efficient lighting using a participating contractor.
Direct Discount lighting incentives will be calculated at $0.12/kWh – up to 75% of total project cost or $100,000.
Benefits:
- Offers higher incentive to help offset the capital investment for energy efficient lighting projects.
- No application for the customer. The contractor handles the paperwork!
- All small and medium UGI business customers with a GS1 or GS4 rate code are eligible. Not sure of your rate code? Check your current utility bill or contact SaveSmart@ugi.com.
- Incentives are paid directly to the contractor, leaving the customer responsible for a much lower portion of the project costs.
Program Information:
- Requires that improvements be installed by a participating contractor.
- All projects require pre-approval prior to beginning work.
- Projects may require an onsite or phone verification.
- For retrofit projects only. New construction is not eligible for instant discounts but can be submitted through our Prescriptive Lighting Program.
- Lights must be ENERGY STAR® rated or must meet the requirements of DLC SSL v5.1 to be eligible for incentives.

How to Apply for an Incentive:
Applying for our Direct Discount Incentive Program is simple because your contractor will complete all the paperwork. If you’re a small or medium sized UGI Electric business (GS1 or GS4) customer, you’re eligible to earn incentives toward energy efficiency improvements.
Just follow the steps below to apply:
1. Choosing a Participating Contractor
Review and select from the list of participating contractors above. After a participating contractor is selected and energy efficiency projects are identified, the contractor will gather all required project information to submit an application.
Participating contractors will collect the following Direct Discount materials:
- Direct Discount Program Contract (Customer Agreement)
- Copy of current UGI electric bill
- Cost estimate (e.g., scope of work, proposal, or project quote)
- Must have contractor and customer initials
- Lighting Manufacturers’ specification sheets (must be annotated)
- Direct Discount Lighting Estimator (Assessment Tool)
- Completed, signed W-9 with tax identification on the most current IRS version (Rev. 2024)
- Pre-install photos. Pre-install photos are required for every project. Photos should be clear and include:
- Front of business where measures are being installed
- Photos of the fixture types being replaced to identify type and wattage
- A few wide shots of the areas being retrofit, to identify the quantity
Contractor submits the completed application and supporting documentation directly to UGI.
2. Pre on-site or phone verification
Our program team may need to verify the facility or project details, either by phone or onsite, for pre-approval purposes.Â
Based on the application’s timelines and scope, we will verify preliminary incentives and energy savings. Once reviewed and approved, we will send a pre-approval letter via email outlining your project’s estimated savings and incentive.
*Incentives are not reserved until the pre-approval letter is sent.
3. Installation
Once pre-approval is received, the customer/contractor will then move forward with the chosen project. Please notify us immediately of any changes to the project scope, equipment selection, or timeline.
4. Submit Payment Request and Required Documentation
Upon completion of the project, the contractor will submit a payment request to UGI. This request needs to include:
- Direct Discount Program Contract (Customer Agreement with post signatures)
- Post-install photos. Post-install photos are required for every project. Photos should be clear and include:
- Front of business where measures are being installed
- Photos of the fixture types being replaced to identify type and wattage
- A few wide shots of the areas being retrofit, to identify the quantity
- Itemized Invoice
- Scope of work change details (if applicable)
This request will initiate the final engineering review. If needed, a phone or onsite verification will be scheduled to verify project details.
5. Incentive Check Issued to Contractor
The project incentive will be directly discounted on the project invoice from the participating contractor. Once your final application has been approved, an incentive check will be sent to the contractor.
