We Are UGI: Celebrating Our Engineers

National Engineers Week is celebrated February 21-27, 2021. Each year, this week calls attention to the contributions engineers make to our society and raises awareness about the role they play in many different types of industries.

At UGI, engineering is an integral part of the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas and electric to the customers and communities we serve. The work they do is especially important in the energy industry, including electric and natural gas utilities like UGI.

UGI Engineer Brandi Ritenour enjoys speaking to young women about the importance of women in science and engineering, through events like the annual Central District Young Women’s Future Symposium, held in Lebanon County, PA.

Prior to the pandemic, this annual in-person event was created for 10th and 11th grade girls from Dauphin, Lebanon and Schuylkill County schools, who show great potential and can benefit from encouragement from female STEM leaders.

“I love attending STEM events and inspiring these young women to pursue a future in engineering,” said Brandi. “When a teenage girl is interested in becoming an engineer, but she tells me that she thinks it’s ‘only a job for boys,’ it’s truly heartbreaking. There is certainly a need for more awareness, so it brings me hope that these STEM events are building the confidence of young women to pursue careers in these fields, regardless of gender imbalance.”
