UGI Continues Natural Gas Vehicle Adoption

UGI’s emissions reduction strategy includes replacing gasoline and diesel vehicles with natural gas vehicles (NGVs) — another step UGI is taking to lower  its Scope I emissions. UGI operates a fleet of 130 compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles. This fleet will soon be 147 strong when an additional 17 CNG vehicles arrive in a few weeks.

“Natural Gas Vehicles are 90% cleaner than the EPA’s current NOx standard and emit up to 21% fewer greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than comparable gas and diesel vehicles,” reports Natural Gas Vehicles for America (NGVAmerica), a national trade association. “When fueling with Renewable Natural Gas (RNG), GHG emissions can be reduced up to 382%.”

Fueling Pennsylvania fleet vehicles

For many years, UGI has been actively helping customers reduce their transportation carbon footprints by supporting NGV adoption by fleets.

Natural gas bus fleets in UGI’s service territory include the County of Lackawanna Transit System, Lebanon Valley Transit, Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority (LANta), and River Valley Transit in Williamsport. In addition to mass transit fleets, UGI delivers natural gas to support the adoption of NGVs by refuse, logistics and other companies. These fleets enjoy cleaner vehicles, as well as cost savings and cost predictability given their proximity to Pennsylvania’s abundant natural gas reserves.

Pennsylvania has a network of 45 publicly-accessible CNG fueling stations.

As UGI provides natural gas service to 45 Pennsylvania counties, many of these are UGI customers.
