Better for your Business, Better for the Environment

Many small to medium-sized businesses are saving hundreds of dollars a year or more on their overall energy costs by switching to natural gas, including Marywood University in Scranton, PA.

As part of a campus-wide energy efficiency project, an inefficient central steam boiler system was replaced by high-efficiency hot water boilers in each building at Marywood. This allows the buildings to be controlled independently, leading to both savings of natural gas and reduced carbon emissions.

By undertaking this project, Marywood University will save approximately 124,775 MMBtu (one million British Thermal Units) of natural gas over the estimated life of the new equipment. A BTU is a measure of the energy content in fuel, and is used in the power, steam generation, heating and air conditioning industries. As a result, the carbon emissions reduction achieved by the University is equal to removing 1,523 cars from the road.

In addition, Marywood received a $101,580 rebate check through the UGI Custom Program provision of UGI’s Gas Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C) Program.

“Innovative solutions and the installation of energy efficiency technology at education facilities allows institutions to reduce operating costs while improving the environment by reducing their carbon footprint,” said Robert Stoyko, UGI Vice President of Customer Relations.

Much of the country’s supply of natural gas is being produced here in Pennsylvania. And, with costs of other forms of energy rising, many businesses are converting to natural gas. It not only helps reduce operational costs but helps reduce your impact on the environment.
