We Are UGI: Supporting Young Women through Girl Scouts

01 Mar 2024

UGI Utilities is proud to support Girl Scouts in the Heart of Pennsylvania (GSHPA)’s efforts to build future leaders and inspire future Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) professionals through employee volunteerism and Pennsylvania’s EITC program.

Girl scouting connects girls with female mentors and peers who encourage each other to discover their talents and grow by taking healthy risks in a safe and supportive setting. Through troops, outreach programs, special events, workshops, camps, and more, Girl Scouts learn valuable skills to help them make sound decisions, build self-esteem and leadership qualities, improve communication skills, and understand the impact they have on the world around them.

UGI Utilities employees recently volunteered with GSHPA to put together Daisy Drop Boxes, which will be sent to troop leaders and contain the resources needed to hold a fun, engaging troop meeting.

“Girl scouting helped put me on the path to volunteering in the community whenever possible and strengthened my leadership skills,” says UGI employee volunteer Denise Yost, who joined Girl Scouts as soon as she was old enough and stayed involved until she was in sixth grade.

In addition to employee volunteerism, UGI Utilities also supports GSHPA through the state’s EITC program. Our contribution supports the “Girls Go STEM” program, which is designed to develop STEM career awareness while growing confidence in STEM disciplines. According to GSHPA, interest in STEM begins in early childhood between the ages of five and 10. Programs such as Girls Go STEM help to bridge the gender gap by ensuring that girls of every age have opportunities to participate in hands-on, educational, collaborative, and inquiry-based STEM programs.

UGI Utilities is proud to support GSHPA’s efforts to build future leaders and inspire the next generation of STEM professionals.
